How To Join

We encourage all people interested in joining Gonzalez United Methodist Church to attend one of our periodic “Connection Points” classes. This class allows you to meet our staff, leadership, and offers a time of Q&A with our pastor.
Anyone may join Gonzalez United Methodist Church in one of four ways.

I. BY PROFESSION OF FAITH AND BAPTISM
If you have never been baptized, our pastor or someone on staff will be available to discuss the meaning of baptism and church membership with you. Contact the church office to make an appointment.

II. BY TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
It is not necessary for you to write your former church. Our membership secretary will handle the details of transfer for you. As a member of Gonzalez United Methodist Church, we expect that you will faithfully participate in the congregational life and ministries of our church.

III. BY TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER CHRISTIAN DENOMINATION
At your request, we will contact your former church to inform them that you have joined Gonzalez UMC. Since we believe that your baptism was a valid experience between you and God, we do not require that you be re-baptized as a condition of membership. As a member of Christ’s universal church and a new member of this congregation, we expect that you will faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service.

IV. AFFILIATE AND ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
If you are a United Methodist whose membership is in another city or state and you wish to retain that membership in your “home” church, you can become an Affiliate Member of Gonzalez UMC.  This grants you pastoral oversight, fellowship and full participation (including the holding of church offices) in our church.  You will be added to our church roll as an Affiliate Member only.  Members of other Christian denominations may elect to become Associate Members under the same conditions.
